The deal would nearly double the startup's valuation from its Series D round just four months ago, extending one of the most remarkable growth trajectories in startup history.

Revenue Doubles in Three Months

The fundraising talks follow a staggering financial milestone. Cursor's annualised recurring revenue has doubled to two billion dollars in just three months, up from the one billion dollar mark it crossed in late twenty twenty-five. Corporate customers now account for roughly sixty percent of revenue, a significant shift from the startup's origins as a tool primarily for individual developers.

From Student Project to Industry Standard

Founded in twenty twenty-two by four MIT graduates, Cursor has grown from one million dollars in annual recurring revenue to two billion in approximately two years. The platform now claims more than seven million monthly active users, over one million daily active users, and more than fifty thousand paying teams. The tool has become a favourite across major tech companies, with adoption spanning some of the largest engineering organisations in the world.

Automations Push Into Agentic Coding

On the fifth of March, Cursor launched its Automations feature, enabling autonomous AI agents to fix bugs, query logs, and write code with minimal human oversight. The company reports that approximately thirty-five percent of its pull requests are now generated by agents running on dedicated virtual machines, signalling a fundamental shift in how software is being built.

Competition Heats Up

The potential new round comes as competition in AI-assisted coding intensifies, with Anthropic's Claude Code and OpenAI's Codex both vying for market share.
