Apple CEO Tim Cook told employees at an all-hands meeting that AI will enable entirely new categories of products and services for the company. The comments come as Apple faces growing competition from OpenAI's Jony Ive-designed hardware and Meta's Ray-Ban Display glasses.

Apple Bets Big on AI-Powered Future

Apple CEO Tim Cook used a company-wide all-hands meeting on Thursday to rally employees around the company's artificial intelligence ambitions, teasing that AI will unlock "new categories of products and services" for the tech giant.

"There will be new categories of products and services that are enabled through AI, and we're extremely excited about that," Cook told staff, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. He expressed confidence in Apple's positioning, stating: "I truly believe there is no company better positioned to let our customers use AI in profound and meaningful ways than Apple."

The Competitive Landscape Heats Up

Cook's remarks arrive at a critical moment. OpenAI confirmed plans to launch its first consumer hardware device in the second half of 2026, a screenless, voice-first gadget designed by former Apple design chief Jony Ive following OpenAI's acquisition of his startup io. The device, being manufactured by Foxconn, targets an ambitious initial production run of forty to fifty million units.

Meanwhile, Meta's seven hundred and ninety-nine dollar Ray-Ban Display glasses have generated such overwhelming demand that the company delayed its international rollout to the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Canada due to inventory constraints.

What Apple Has in the Pipeline

Apple's response centres on several fronts. AI-powered smart glasses are expected to be unveiled later this year, though shipping may not begin until 2027. The glasses will reportedly feature cameras, microphones and speakers, with a revamped Siri handling voice interactions and visual intelligence capabilities.

On the services side, Apple is developing Health Plus, an AI-driven subscription service offering personalised nutrition and wellness coaching, expected to debut with iOS 27 this autumn.

Leadership Transitions

The meeting also addressed recent executive departures, including Lisa Jackson, Jeff Williams and Katherine Adams. Cook described these as long-planned, adding that he spends significant time thinking about succession and "who's in the room five years from now." With Apple's fiftieth anniversary approaching in April, Cook promised employees "some celebration" while describing himself as "unusually reflective" about the company's history.
