Industry Rivals Unite for AI Agent Standards

In a surprising display of cooperation, Microsoft, Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic have joined forces under the Linux Foundation to form the Agentic AI Foundation. The initiative aims to prevent a fragmented future of proprietary AI agent systems by establishing open standards for how AI agents interact with external tools and services.

Central to this effort is Anthropic's Model Context Protocol, often described as the USB-C for AI, which has rapidly become the industry standard for connecting AI models to databases, search engines, and APIs. OpenAI contributed its AGENTS.md specification, already adopted by over sixty thousand open source projects.

Meta's Two Billion Dollar Agent Acquisition
